I agree with other reviewers that the instructions for use are very obscure. However, it isn't too difficult to figure out how this template should be used, and I managed to set it up with the box body in my bench vise and the lid on the bench itself, the template covering and separating the pieces. However, the results weren't great, since the proper alignment is critically dependent on a number of things, such as slight variations in bushing dimensions, assuring that the box and lid sides are accurately squared, and of course, your skill in squaring the corners of the mortises. Also, I wasn't pleased to have to file down the bushing, making it useless for my dovetail jig. Overall, it's a lot easier and more accurate for me to cut the mortises by hand with a chisel. These templates might be more useful in a production setting, where the labor in setting up a jig would result in a higher throughput.
