"The story actually started with a cradle I built for my daughter Isabelle two years ago right before she was born. I carved a heart into the headboard which ended up being the defining highlight of the cradle. I held onto the cradle after she outgrew it in the hopes of maybe passing it down to other family members or future grandchildren, but when we moved last year, the cradle was irreparably damaged. Taking the heart as inspiration, I decided to make Isabelle something else that she could enjoy and pass down. The box is cherry with walnut trim and walnut dovetail splines. The hinges fit the design perfectly by holding the lid open and upright. No chain or tricky mortise cutting needed!"
