Tile Boxes from Jerry K.
These two commissioned boxes were submitted to us by Jerry Komassa who lives in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin.
"I was always interested in woodworking but didn't have the time or patience for serious work. Now that I'm retired my new "job" IS woodworking!
I have made a number of this type of box in the past which calls for employing a small 4" tile. This time I was commissioned by a customer to make a similar box with an 8", 3lb tile! They had certain requirements for the size of the content area of the box. I was a little un-nerved!
First, I drew up paper diagrams for myself trying to meet the requirements of the client while keeping the whole project proportional. I was a little anxious that the box might tip over when the lid was opened but it all worked out well with no chance of tipping. I chose the Brusso JB-107 hinges which proved to be the right choice! They function perfectly! I showed my client the hinges telling him they were the "jewelry" for his box, and he totally agreed."
