Excellent Marquetry from Robert Fontana

Excellent Marquetry from Robert Fontana

Posted by Brusso Hardware on Nov 5th 2015

Beneath are some amazing photos from our customer Robert Fontana.  It's these kinds of photos that make us as Brusso excited to do our jobs.  Knowing that we were a small part of such a beautiful project is a real motivation for us all.  Here's some background Bob provided:

This box won First Place and Peoples' Choice Awards at the 2011 Northwest Fine Woodworking Box & Container Show in Seattle, WA. It had 4 marquetry panels copying 18th century woodblock prints by the Japanese master Hokusai. The box used Brusso's stop hinges (JB-101) and was trimmed throughout in Hawaiian koa.

I am a retired Electrical Engineer (ran my own small business in radar and communications systems for 25 years), and got interested in woodworking prior to my retirement in 2008. I love marquetry, and the incorporation of multi-media techniques -- e.g., inlays of semi-precious stones, pyrography, acrylics for enhancement, gilding techniques, etc.

Bob is a member of the American Marquetry Society and teaches marquetry techniques at the Woodworkers Club in Rockville, MD.
